Endimione ETS is born

On 21 April Endimione ETS was founded in Brescia: a new Third Sector association devoted to promoting cultural, educational and outreach initiatives open to the community.

Endimione was born from the meeting of young people with different backgrounds, skills and interests, united by a common project: making culture more accessible and shared, and able to create opportunities for dialogue between research, institutions, the local area and citizens.

The association builds on projects and relationships developed in recent years, starting from experiences born in the Brescia area and grown through collaboration between researchers, associations, institutions and local organisations. Among these, an important role was played by InSintesi, the cultural series devoted to young scholars, launched in 2024 to bring theses, research, publications and ongoing projects outside academic spaces. Building on these experiences, Endimione ETS aims to give continuity and a new form to a shared wish: to build a stable space for meeting, discussion and participation.

The name Endimione recalls the myth of Endymion, the young man loved by Selene/Diana, goddess of the Moon. According to one tradition, on a calm summer night Endymion was sleeping in a grove on Mount Latmus, sheltered by the trees, when a ray of moonlight lit up his face. Struck by his beauty, Selene fell in love with him and began to descend from the sky every night to sleep beside him. The goddess then asked Zeus to let her keep him forever and to make him immortal. But immortality without eternal youth would have condemned Endymion to grow old. To save him from time, Selene had Hypnos kiss his eyelids, plunging him into an eternal sleep. From then on, the story goes, the goddess came down at night to the cave to meet the sleeping Endymion.

This image has travelled through the centuries, inspiring literary and artistic works. Among the best known, John Keats's romantic poem Endymion opens with the famous line: “A thing of beauty is a joy forever”. This idea is also what led us to choose the name Endimione: a reference to the ancient world, the 'common ground' of our studies, but also to the ability of culture to keep generating meaning in the present.

Endimione ETS was born with this ambition: to make dialogue with the cultural, historical, artistic and human heritage of its surroundings lively, accessible and shared. We are rooted in Brescia, but open to national and international dialogue. Our activities will span different fields: from ancient and humanistic culture to philosophy, from history to literature, from art to the promotion of cultural heritage and the local area, as well as outreach, education and the promotion of knowledge.

The association's first projects include the new edition of InSintesi, the coordination of the Symposium Peregrinum 2026 in Brescia and the promotion of talks, book presentations and cultural initiatives open to the public.
